Good Samaritan Foundation Training and Outreach Center

Why today and what it will mean for our students' future?

"We cannot provide all our young people with idyllic childhoods, as much as we would like to do so. But we can—and we must—provide them with the minimum requirements they need to grow up into self-supporting and contributing members of society. We do this by keeping the Five Promises."
General Colin L. Powell, USA

Anacostia, located in Southeast Washington D.C., has come to epitomize the crime-ravaged, economically troubled communities across urban America that have become home to many of our poverty-stricken. While The Good Samaritan Foundation cannot single-handedly eliminate the factors that lead to these conditions, we endeavor to serve as a change agent in the mission to lessen the suffering in this community.

The future site of The Good Samaritan Foundation Anacostia Training and Outreach Center, located at 2405 Martin Luther King Avenue in Southeast Washington, D.C., will strengthen our infrastructure and bring us closer to assisting these families. In doing so, the Foundation seeks to achieve the Five Promises of America's Promise.

  • Ongoing relationships with caring adults
  • Safe places with structured activities during non-school hours
  • Healthy start and future
  • Marketable skills through effective education
  • Opportunities to give back through community service

We are excited to announce that with the completion of the first Training and Outreach Center, the Foundation will be able to serve all Five Promises. The Training Center will be a full-service student center, where young adults can go to study hall, surf the World Wide Web in the Power Up computer lab, or have a healthy after school snack.

The future site of the Training Center requires significant renovations. Because of the generosity of our corporate sponsors—Accenture, Clark Construction, the Freedom Forum, Association of Builders and Contractors, Ford Foundation, and Equalfooting.com, we are able to take the first steps towards making the Training Center a reality. Once the first Training Center is completed, we hope to provide centers throughout the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, in neighborhoods where there is a great need for the Foundation's services.

You and your organization also can help fulfill our vision for the Training Center by becoming a corporate sponsor. For more details on how you can support the Training and Outreach Center, please e-mail gsfstaff@gsf-dc.org.
